INTRODUCTION

Career Exploration is important because it gives you a focus for the future. Hopefully you will use this information to make decisions about the classes you take in high school and to improve your study habits so that you meet your education and career goals.


CAREER REPORT DELIVERABLES







SKILLS AND INTEREST SURVEY
:
You will use an online tool that will assess your interests and skills and suggest careers in which your interests and skills could be utilized. You are required to use this information in your report and base your three career selections on this information.

  1. Find out the careers that match your personality type. Use both of the links below to take a quick quiz. Follow the instructions for each link:
    • Personality Type: Complete numbers 1-4. Print your personality summary. Clink on the link for job for your personality and print that page also.
    • Princeton Review Career Quiz: Create your own user name and password. If you have trouble on the site, “REFRESH” the page with the refresh arrow in your web browser. Be sure to print the first page of your personality profile.
  2. Research three careers using these links (or some of your own):







MS WORD:
Write a 3-5 page typewritten paper on three careers that you are interested in. Collect research materials from the library and Internet. The report should be prepared in a Word document with a references page.
  1. Your document must include a summary of the skills and interest survey.
  2. A profile for each career that you will research (that means three (3) profiles). Your profile must include the topics described in the REQUIREMENTS section of this page.
  3. A reflection page.
  4. A REFERENCES page.







POWERPOINT:
You are required to create a PowerPoint presentation about the three careers discussed in your Word document. The requirements for your PowerPoint are in the REQUIREMENTS section below.








REQUIREMENTS:

Your Word and PowerPoint documents must include the following subtopics about each career:

1. Summary of the skills and interest survey.
a. What is your personality type?
b. What careers are suggested for your personality type?

2. Job Description/Duties Needed for Each Career
a. What responsibilities would you have?
b. Which responsibilities would you like and which would you dislike?

3. Personal Characteristics Needed for Each Career
a. What important personal characteristics do you think would be needed to be happy and successful in this occupation?
b. Why does this career fit your personality?
c. What personal values does this career provide that are important to you? (Examples: security, having fun, status, helping others, challenging...)

4. Education Needed for Each Career
a. What specific high school classes and activities would be most helpful in preparing for this career?
b. What type of education or training would you need after high school? List possible colleges/schools where you may receive training.

5. Work Setting for Each Career
a. How many hours would you generally work?
b. What would your work environment be?
c. Would you travel?
d. Would your job be stressful?
e. What would you like and dislike about the work setting?

6. Wages and Benefits for Each Career
a. Entry wages: How much would a worker in this occupation generally start at?
b. What is the range of wages that an experienced worker can earn?
c. Will the worker receive insurance, sick leave, paid vacation etc.
d. Do you see this occupation as providing enough income for you to live according to your expectations?

7. Employment Outlook for Each Career
a. What is the occupational outlook for this career?

8. Personal Assessment
a. Choose one occupation and explain why you think this occupation would be right for you.
b. How does it fit your personality, interests, values, and educational plans.
